Here is a great article I found from Science Daily which all cat owners should read. I know a friend of mine that over feeds his cats (and himself).

“You might watch your daily calorie intake or glance over nutritional information on food packages, but do you do the same for your pet?

Dr. Susan Nelson, a veterinarian and assistant professor of clinical sciences at Kansas State University, said there are several guidelines to follow when feeding your pet to ensure that it maintains good health.

Cat v Dog

This old arguement again from the LA Times, the old Cat v Dog intellegence test. I have to say I have come across some really smart and not so bright dogs and cats so I’m sitting on the fence for this one. Anyway, its not a bad read so here is the article anyway.

Although your pets of choice are independent, clean and able to use a litter box, dogs have at least one leg-up on them: They’re more able to understand the concept of cause-and-effect. Or so says psychology lecturer Britta Osthaus, who recently conducted a study on cats’ thought processes using 15 feline subjects.

Cat-food irradiation banned as pet theory proved

How sad that it has taken this long for the government to work out what was causing the deaths of many cats around Australia. For those that don’t have the history on this story a Canadian gourmet pet food called brand called Orijen was believed to be responsible for the deaths of many cats but it has now been proven that it was in fact the governments requirement of irradiating imported pet food which contaminated and poisoned the cats.

My partner just bought this cd by Garrison Keillor, German opera star Frederica Von Stade and noted conductor Philip Brunelle in this studio recording. It is fantasitc and includes sixteen songs in praise of felines including “My Grandmother’s Cat,” “The In and Out Song,” “Cat O Cat Come Home” and more! He got it from Amazon but I’m sure you can get it in most music shops.

QLD cat registration compulsory from July 1

For all cat owners living in Queensland. From July 1 all 11 southeast Queensland councils including Brisbane will make cat owners register their animals with collars and identification tags. This will be law and will be compulsory.
