Here is an amazing story of survival from the Sydney Morning Herald website. A little cattle dog named “Sophie Tucker” fell off a baot and swam five nautical miles to survive four months before being reunited with its owners. We do love a good news story!

Here is a sad story form The Australian newspaper. A woman’s poor liitle maltese terrier was eaten by a python!

“A PYTHON has devoured a Northern Territory woman’s 5.8kg pet dog, including the collar and name tag.
Patty Buntine’s three-year-old maltese terrier-cross Bindi disappeared from her Katherine home last week.
Ms Buntine said she was worried when Bindi failed to show up for her routine breakfast.
Dog died after two hours in a car

Another reminder that animals like children should not be left in cars. A guy from the West Midlands left his Red Setter named Trueman in the car for two hours and the poor dog died from heatstroke. He has only been banned from keeping a dog for a year! What’s up with that, he should have gotten longer than that!

Stump wins 133rd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Show

“Stump”, a sussex spaniel came out of retirement to win the 133rd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Best In Show, becoming the oldest as well as the first sussex spaniel to win the award. His owner said Stump technically retired four years ago after a health scare which almost took his life. This this is a true underdog (I know I had to go there!) story…love your work Stump!
Overdressed dogs could be fined

I have to say that I agree somewhat with the RSPCA Britain on this one. According to the Daily Mail website, the RSPCA in Britain has threatened legal action against pet owners who “overdress” their dogs.

Whats it all coming to, British drug company Acura Pharma has bought the rights to two pills. The first being a Prozac-type pill that is meant to lesson the aggression shown by some dogs and and another acts on OCD, which can lead to excessive paw-licking, tailchasing and barking.

Here is a interesting story from the Science Daily website which asses an experiment around the ease in which a cat in a family can adjust to having a puppy introduced. No real surprises here but its always good to have assumptions validated with science.
