Prozac for dogs

Whats it all coming to, British drug company Acura Pharma has bought the rights to two pills. The first being a Prozac-type pill that is meant to lesson the aggression shown by some dogs and and another acts on OCD, which can lead to excessive paw-licking, tailchasing and barking.

According to a story in The Daily Mail website Dr Nicholas Dodman, a British-born vet and behavioural pharmacologist who developed both pills said, ‘People are bonkers about their pets, as they should be,’ he said.

‘Most pet owners understand that animals are living, sentient creatures-that have emotions similar to our own. Pets face more mental health problems for the same reasons we do as we live increasingly constrained, pedestrian lifestyles.’

The drugs will undergo tests in the UK and would need a prescription.
